A non-manipulative, hands-on therapy which encourages the body to heal, realign itself and relax.
Bowen Technique is a non-invasive, hands-on treatment that aims to allow the body to ‘reset’ and heal itself. The treatment addresses key points on the body to stimulate energy flow. Working with the soft tissue to encourage realignment, it involves a gentle, rolling motion with very light touches. It’s a particularly gentle therapy and has been reported to have profound results within a few sessions.
Because it’s so gentle, the Bowen Technique is particularly suitable for the very young, elderly and disabled. It is often used for painful conditions involving joints and muscles. Some midwives use the technique on labouring women and the newly born. Seeing a qualified practitioner gives you the opportunity to discuss your condition with a professional with years of training and experience.
What conditions is it used for?
This can be uses as a quick treatment to help relief of aches and pains particularly in the back, neck and shoulder areas. As a tool to help relax or re-invigorate you, it can help with stress and as a quick ‘pick me up’. For anyone with a desk job it may help with posture.
What to expect
A treatment will last between 30 and 60 minutes. You’ll lie on a couch or sit on a chair and your practitioner will use their thumb and fingers in a rolling movement to release tension and energy blockages. The movements can be applied directly to the skin or through light clothing; no oil is used. Two or three sessions a week apart will usually be considered enough to provide relief.
