Change your life: When in doubt add helium!

24 February, 2014

One of the most important ingredients in creating a successful life is remembering to appreciate others.

Imagine that every person is like a helium balloon, and the helium inside the balloon represents each person’s self-confidence. When you add helium, the balloon expands and floats upwards. Take helium out and it deflates, drops to the ground and shrinks.

My challenge for the week is to make it a HABIT to consciously “add helium” to people’s balloons …

The way to develop the best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement” — Charles Schwab

Find ways to say or do something to others which increases the amount of helium – or self confidence – that they’ve got. Something that makes them feel good, feel special, feel appreciated. It could be a friend, employee, a client, family, your bank manager, the person at the check-out in Tesco – even the person who cuts in front of you in their car.

Why is this important? Because:

  • Good will spreads. Think of the impact it could have in terms of increasing the sum of happiness and potential in the world if everyone adopted this attitude.
  • It feels great to boost someone else’s confidence.
  • It makes you an extremely ‘attractive’ person.

People will be drawn to you and your own self-confidence will increase as a result.

Why not give it a try?
